Parkside pack innovations take silver at EFIA Print Awards

Packaging solutions provider Parkside has scooped two awards at the recent prestigious European Flexographic Industry Association (EFIA) Print Awards.

Parkside was awarded silver in both the Technical Innovation and Sustainable Manufacturing & Product Innovation categories for a printed fish pack for Young’s Seafood Ltd. and Jacob’s Cream Crackers plastic tubs respectively.

Parkside was also highly commended in the Flexo print on film (medium web) category for a new recloseable share bag for Seabrook Crisps using unique laser technology. The new lasered pack enables consumers to peel open the front of the packet, before re-closing it and saving for later.

Commenting on the award wins, Nick Smith, managing director at Parkside, said: “This awards programme turns the spotlight on the very best that the flexographic print sector has to offer. Judges complimented Parkside on demonstrating a commitment to leading edge sustainable production and manufacturing whilst delivering new market standards for flexo pack designs.

Parkside worked in partnership with LINPAC on producing an innovative, printed fish pack for Young’s Seafood Ltd. Parkside’s role in the project was to print a unique flexo reverse newspaper print on to an rPET tray.

The Normanton, UK headquartered company also created a more environmentally friendly pack, when compared to previous Jacob’s Cream Crackers plastic tubs. Parkside was successful in developing a 30 micron in-mould label, which was flexo printed instead of a traditional gravure print solution.

The EFIA annual print awards were presented at a ceremony at The Vox Conference Centre at Resorts World in Birmingham last week (March 16, 2017) and recognise excellence in flexographic printing across a number of skills and techniques.
