UK packaging specialists, Parkside, claimed top prize at The Stationers’ Company Innovation Excellence Awards, picking up the overall Innovator of the Year award during the prestigious event, held at Stationers’ Hall, London.
Parkside was praised for its revolutionary Park-2-Nature™, a range of compostable laminate structures to replace traditional plastic packaging, and also collected the Novel Manufacturing Technology category award.
Nick Smith, Managing Director, said: “We are immensely proud of these achievements. These awards highlight the industry’s acknowledgement of Parkside’s compostable products which keep environmental wellbeing front of mind.
“We are clearly now recognised as a leading company which creates new innovative packaging valued by brand owners, converters and consumers alike.”
The Park-2-Nature range is manufactured using bio-based materials and can be placed into a home compost bin and will decompose within 26 weeks at ambient temperature, acting as a fertiliser for the soil. The compostable materials have been awarded valuable industry recognised accreditations.
Parkside was competing against other companies in the paper, ink, printing, publishing, advertising, marketing, copyright licensing and packaging sectors.
Upon receiving the Innovator of the year award, the company was complimented by the judges: “Parkside’s winning entry, Park-2-Nature, will doubtless have a positive impact on the environment. The judges were particularly impressed by both the eye-catching attractiveness of the products and the tenacity of the team, noting the long period of research culminating in Park-2-Nature.”
The Stationers’ Company award win further builds on the success Parkside experienced earlier this year when the company won gold awards in both the Outstanding Technical Innovation and Good Manufacturing Practice categories at the European Flexographic Industry Association (EFIA) annual print awards.
