Sustainable, flexible packaging solutions specialist, Parkside, has announced it has been shortlisted for two FIAUK awards for its innovative environmentally-friendly packaging solutions.

The company’s paper recyclable flexible packing for frozen food created for Iceland’s Northcoast range of frozen seafood has been selected in the technical innovation category. The packaging solution represents the first successful application of paper flexible packaging on frozen seafood.

Parkside is also shortlisted in the sustainably produced packaging category for collaborating with sustainable food brand Riverford Organics. The packaging solution has enabled the company to move away from conventional plastic-based packaging. Riverford has now switched all of its packaging to flexible paper recyclable and compostable pulp punnets for soft fruits and mushrooms.

Paula Birch, Global Sales Director at Parkside, said: “Environmental responsibility is a significant concern for customers following widespread concern over plastic pollution and waste. Packaging is at the forefront of this debate and requires new innovative solutions to ensure companies are aligning to consumer attitudes and utilising packaging that is good for the environment.

“These two solutions form part of our sustainable packaging portfolio, helping to address end-of-life challenges and consumer behaviours. We’re extremely proud to see that our industry-leading innovations in this area have been recognised with these FIAUK Award shortlistings.”

The FIAUK awards are highly regarded by flexographic print and packaging experts worldwide and recognise outstanding commitment to the flexographic print process. The awards enable companies to showcase their capabilities and demonstrate quality, true innovation and technical ability, efficiency and sustainability.
