An innovative collaboration with Northcoast Seafoods helped packaging solutions specialist Parkside claim the Award for Packaging Excellence at the recent prestigious Worldstar Packaging Awards.
Parkside was praised for its innovation in creating the first reclosable pack for frozen foods that enables users to easily open the packaging, time and again, without compromising the overall function of the pack. The pack also promotes sustainability, by eliminating the need for the use of other plastics, such as clingfilm, to keep the product fresh.
Paula Birch, Sales Director at Parkside, said: “We are extremely proud of this achievement. The Worldstar Packaging Awards are amongst the most sought after in the industry, so for us to be recognised at this highest level is a wonderful moment for the business.”
Utilising Parkside’s unique laser scribe technology and bespoke adhesive and lamination techniques, the reclose function of the pack performs in both ambient and freezer conditions without loss of adhesion. The pack also provides consumers with a usable portion control pack that eliminates food waste and spillage in the freezer.
Birch added: “We have invested a great deal of time and effort into our research and development over recent years, which has enabled us to create unique packaging solutions. This market-changing innovation will undoubtedly help brands who are looking to deliver on sustainability without compromising on consumer convenience.”
The Worldstar Packaging Awards highlight the continual advancement of packaging design and technology and set a high benchmark for international packaging excellence. Presented only to those packs which have already won recognition in national or regional competitions in the present or previous year, the awards are judged by a panel of experts who compare entries to similar packs from around the world.
