Top Australian Packaging Trends Expected to Shape AUSPACK 2017

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be partnering up with Australian packaging machinery specialist, Perfect Automation, to showcase our latest cook ready solutions at AUSPACK on 7th to 10th March 2017. On display at the three-day event will be our revolutionary ready meal lidding solution, LIDD, packs utilising our Parkscribe laser technology and a brand new reclosable fruit pack solution.

AUSPACK, Australasia’s leading processing and packaging exhibition, is held at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, and is guaranteed to give great insight into the latest packaging innovations and industry developments. To get the most out of the show we’ve explored the trends that we see shaping the Australian exhibition in March.

It’s all in the experience

Gaming saw a true explosion in the VR/AR trend (think Pokémon Go) in 2016, which is expected to continue soaring. In packaging terms, increased adoption of AR and VR is likely to create cost and time-saving benefits as well as an ability to better understand shopper habits and behaviours. The ever-growing digital world will give brands the chance to engage more with consumers. This year’s event promises to showcase plenty of 3D printing, virtual models and virtual reality tours, as well as an exclusive Augmented Reality Experience, a new addition to the 2017 exhibition.

Creating individuality

Australian Millennial and Generation Z (those born 1998-2010) demographic groups, represent a large proportion of the country’s gross income and the demands of both groups are increasing. Heat sensors, motion detectors and facial readers are all likely to come into play in the retail arena to help provide a customised, personalised shopping experience and product offer. Personalised packaging is likely to be at the forefront of the show this year due to its power to increase engagement and brand loyalty.

Beyond packaging design

Australian online retail sales increased by over 13 per cent from 2015 to 2016. Brands must learn to appeal to consumers both digitally and in store by creating packaging that remains an integral part of the decision process. Packaging with value-added features that save consumers money, ensure protection and improve shelf life, as well as meeting consumer needs, are likely to be heavily featured during the event. Features such as portion control and reclosability are innovative ways to add value and we also expect to see them showcased.

If you’re visiting the event, we look forward to seeing you at Stand 48! And if you’re not, keep your eye on our blog for our post-event, up-and-coming trend discoveries, which are set to determine the future of the Australian packaging market.
