Parkside celebrates after triple nomination at Environmental Packaging Awards

Leading flexible packaging innovator, Parkside is hoping for a hat trick at the upcoming Environmental Packaging Awards after it secured three nominations on the shortlist.

The inaugural awards, hosted by Packaging News, will see Parkside compete in three different categories. Following success at last year’s FIAUK awards, its freezer-ready paper seafood pouch developed for frozen food giant Iceland, is nominated in the Chilled and Frozen Food category. Another previous winner at the FIAUK awards – a compostable pulp tray and lidding film for fruit and veg grower Riverford – is nominated in the Fresh Food category. Its third nomination is in the Ambient Food category, where its work to develop a 100% compostable wholesale coffee bag for Dark Woods Coffee was recognised.

Parkside packaging also appeared elsewhere in the shortlist, as artisan crisp manufacturer Two Farmers Crisps was nominated for Sustainable Brand of the Year. Parkside makes the home compostable packaging that forms a key part of Two Farmers’ operation, marking the manufacturer as a leader in sustainable packaging.

Paul McKeown, Group Sales Director at Parkside was delighted with the triple nomination, saying, “We’re honoured to be shortlisted for the very first Environmental Packaging Awards with three nominations. It has been a hugely successful last 12 months for Parkside, and we’ve continued to raise the bar with our innovative sustainable packaging projects.

“We recently announced strong year-on-year growth and it’s gratifying to be recognised for the consistent excellence we’re delivering to our customers year on year. It’s tremendous news that coincides perfectly with the launch of our Sustainable 7 strategy.”

The first-ever Environmental Packaging Awards will be presented at a special awards ceremony held at The Eastside Rooms in Birmingham. The award categories invite submissions from packaging projects across a range of FMCG segments, as well as three special awards for business performance – the Environmental Champion Award, Sustainable Brand of the Year, and Sustainable Retailer of the Year.

The entries in each category will be judged by a selection of industry luminaries, with winners and highly commended entries to be revealed at the awards ceremony on Tuesday 13th June.

Parkside’s triple nomination is the latest in a string of successes for the Normanton-based manufacturer. Its strong performance enabled the flexible packaging innovator to further invest in its global operations, with its Malaysian site expanding significantly in recent years. It recently launched its Sustainable 7 campaign, highlighting the seven sustainable pillars that underpin its approach to every job.
