Parkside has achieved another impressive milestone after its groundbreaking freezer-proof recyclable paper packaging solution was shortlisted for an Innovation Excellence Award from the historic Stationers’ Company.
The pack, which uses Parkside’s Recoflex™ material and was developed for frozen food supermarket Iceland’s Northcoast range of frozen seafood, was recognised in the hotly contested Product Design category. The nomination cements its status as a revolutionary sustainable flexible packaging solution, as one of the first fully functional paper-based pack that is both totally recyclable and freezeproof.
To create the pack, the paper-based laminate Recoflex material was further enhanced using a water-based coating that acts as a moisture and grease barrier. It also prevents ice crystals from forming on the pack, which preserves the integrity of the moisture and grease barrier as it moves through the supply chain.
Mark Shaw, Sales Account Manager with Parkside, was overjoyed with the nomination, saying: “Innovations like this pack don’t happen overnight – the Recoflex material alone is the result of a lot of hard work and continuous improvement. It’s incredibly gratifying to see all that hard work recognised with such a prestigious award nomination – it makes all the effort worthwhile.
“Huge thanks are due to our talented, passionate innovation team for their tireless work on perfecting this groundbreaking technology, and of course to our contacts at Iceland and North Coast, for their collaboration and commitment to the innovation.”
The Stationers’ Company is an institution with over 600 years of history, having first been founded in 1403. Its annual Innovation Excellence Awards, which attracts entries from across the communications, content, and print industries, are among the most prestigious in all three sectors, celebrating excellence and innovation in product design, performance, and quality.
As is tradition, the awards will be presented in a ceremony at the famous, Grade I-listed Stationers’ Hall in London. Following the award ceremony, all the nominated innovations will be on show at the IEA 2023 exhibition, which also takes place in the Hall. Both events take place on September 25.
