Sustainable flexible packaging specialist Parkside Flexibles (‘Parkside’) is celebrating a double award win after scooping two prizes at this year’s prestigious FIAUK awards.
The company picked up a Gold award in the highly competitive Technical Innovation – Printer category for its innovative paper-based frozen seafood packaging. Later in the night, it also won a Bronze award in the Sustainably Produced Packaging category for its soft fruit pack, made from renewable pulp with a compostable film.
Following the announcements, Paula Birch, Global Sales Director at Parkside, expressed her pride in the company’s momentous achievements, saying, “Everyone in the Parkside team has worked so hard over the last few years, and it is immensely gratifying to see everyone’s efforts recognised by our industry peers. The skill, passion, and commitment that Parkside’s people bring to work every day ensures our company continues to go from strength to strength even in the face of the many challenges facing the print and packaging sector at the moment.”
“Sustainability and technical innovation are two foundational values of our company, so to win awards in both of these categories is particularly special for us. We hope this proves that flexible packaging can be the high performance, desirable, and sustainable solution that the market demands, and that a commitment to innovation and quality will always deliver results.”
The Gold-winning prize, a collaboration with frozen food supermarket giant Iceland, attracted significant interest on its release as one of the first successful applications of paper packaging in the frozen food sector. The heat-sealable pack, which was designed completely plastic-free, was precision-engineered using a range of water-based barrier coatings to resist below-zero temperatures and high levels of moisture for prolonged periods.
The awards were presented at the annual FIAUK awards dinner in front of 450 of the industry’s leading professionals from the UK’s biggest flexo, packaging, and label companies. This year, the ceremony celebrating the Association’s 50th anniversary, was held at the iconic Silverstone circuit, with each award category being judged by a range of brands and experts from across the flexographic sector.
Birch added, “We were thrilled to be part of such a special night for our industry and taking home two awards was the icing on the cake. However, we never stand still at Parkside, so our aim is to bring home even more golds at next year’s awards!”
